Weekends away with furry friends on the Surf Coast
More and more accommodation businesses are now allowing pets on mini breaks or weekends away. It means that you don't have to stress about who's going to look after them and also means your mini break or weekend away doesn't have to cost you a bomb. We travel with our dog when ever we can, he has always been part of our mini breaks and weekends away, we just know he loves us for it.
Her are some things to look out for when you are looking for accommodation when travelling with a pet.
- look for accommodation with lots of room to run around
- try to stay away from accommodation that is near or on a busy road, in case they get out and go for wander
- look out for off the lead parks or areas you can walk to from your location if possible
It's always a good idea to pack a bag for your furry friend too. This should include things like dog bed, leads, treats, ball, dog toy, food and poo bags (always important to clean after your dog).
Make sure your dog has a tag with a clear phone number on it, incase they do get out or get away from you, someone will be able to reach you.
Most of our Surf Coast locals love animals and dogs especially are welcome. They appreciate responsible dog owners who abide by the rules at the beach and especially appreciate the owners who pick up after their dogs, as this has been a problem in the past.
There are a few off the lead dog beaches you can take them to, you just need to check in with the local council regarding times etc.
So nice to know that your furry friends can get a well deserved beach break too.
